They talk about him constantly – when he is up, when he is asleep, when he is among them, when he is not with them. Where he walks, it’s as though there is a cloud made of whispers follows him everywhere, just like their eyes. When he speaks, they listen carefully not because they wish to be kind, but because they are measuring each word, trying to see if there is something he can give them, or if there is a weakness – an inconsistency – that they expose, blow completely out of proportion to their own benefit.
A lesser man would have been upset. A lesser man would have felt pressured, would have worried, would have grown small and thin (or, in the case of his father, immense and fat) from paranoia, surrounding themselves with bodyguards and finding means to elevate themselves beyond the reach of anything and anyone who could harm them.
Rufus Shinra is different. He has long since realized that his existence is all about talk, whether he is the one doing it or someone else is doing it for him. He has long since learned to use it to his advantage, regardless of the situation. What was that about publicity? If there was a book on such a thing, on how good and bad always helped one in the long run, Rufus was probably the man who wrote it.
“Cherry.”
“Sir?”
“My tea, if you will.”
“O-of course, sir.”
He followed his secretary with his eyes from over the papers that he was reading. Cherry was the third he has gone through since he returned to the capital. She’s a sweet thing, doe-eyed and earnest, obviously uncomfortable in the clothes of her profession. She had the tendency to stick her tongue out just a bit from the side of her mouth when she was transcribing something particularly complicated.
Rufus had not missed the way she has tried to catch his attentions. It would be easy to think that this was the typical lobbying of a woman caught in a man’s world, using her own as currency. Rufus was hardly ever fooled by what came off as ‘easy’. She was either hoping to ingratiate herself to him for her own purposes or to ingratiate herself to him for someone else’s.
He had thought that it was a former. That was precisely why he had made sure to run several background checks (subtle, of course). Because one couldn’t always trust one’s judgment. One always had to be careful.
The verdict: she’s just a nice girl who happens to be rather pretty. She isn’t smart enough to make it on her own merit; she isn’t cunning enough to consider the advantages of coming unto one’s boss beyond the romantic notion of raunchy, scandalous sex behind the closed doors of his office, or some sweet bedroom dancing in one of his many, luxurious apartments.
The fact: everybody’s just nice.
The consideration: Not everyone happens to be rather pretty.
“Here, sir.”
“Thank you, my dear.”
The touch on her sleeve and her hand was deliberate. When Cherry’s eyes lifted up to meet his, Rufus smiled.
Tonight was bound to prove most interesting for him.
( So what's in it for me? )

The Coraggioso;
For Booze, Suits and Night Music
Description
Some of you may remember the Coraggioso as it used to be; others might just know it as that abandoned joint in the lobby of the Bellagio. Regardless of where you fall under, you’ll note, now, that someone’s busted the lock on the doors and pulled the tape off the windows, restoring the Coraggioso to its former glory and then some.
Rufus Shinra has taken over Luck Gandor’s old jazz club, expanding the floor space and giving it the feel of a 1930s speakeasy. If you’re looking for a place to kick back, relax and admire beautiful boys and charming gentlemen in crisp, smart suits to the tune of a soulful saxophone, the Coraggioso is the place for you!
If you’re in the know, however, or happen to be an ally of Rufus, you can get more than just a lovely performance at this bar. The ShinRa president’s got big plans, and he’s starting things off by offering what he plans to be the finest guns in the city to the right bidders, and a range to try them out in.
Business Hours
Open on Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 6 PM to 4 AM
Mondays are open to customers looking for guns and hoping to use the shooting range. You’ll have to schedule this beforehand. :)
The Amenities and the Merchandise
The bar. The Coraggioso’s got a fine selection of American and European alcohol, reflective of Rufus’ discriminating taste. Prices range between 1-3 chips a glass, or 2-4 chips a bottle.
The music. Before anything else, this joint’s a jazz club. Live performances start at 9 PM every night and wrap up at around two in the morning.
The games. 1 chip will get you a round of darts; 2 chips will give you a deck of cards or a billiards table for the entire evening.
The rooms. Private rooms are available at the back, for meetings and liaisons. People can rent one out for the entire evening for three chips.
The guns. People who have the chips and ask the right questions can buy guns over the bar. Prices are negotiable.
The range. You’ll have to find out that this place exists first before you can avail of it. Once you know, though, 2 chips will earn you the right to blast away at paper targets all you like for a day.

The Coraggioso’s now hiring people! If you’re interested in any of the positions listed below, tap this post~
More positions may open up in the future, so stay tuned!
Rufus is rather picky about the people he likes to have under him. Good looks and exceptional manners are a must; fighting skills or the capability to defend one's self are a pleasant extra. Employees of the Coraggioso are also required to be "in costume" (1920s-30s getup) at all times.
